Where the story began
In a standard peninsula room, guests are offered to user 4 different screen devices in different sizes to control the room experience. The challenges of this project was to align different size of screen at the same time while keeping the consistent layout, look & feel at the same time. Changing one thing could possibly changing the same thing on the other 3 devices. On top of that, the operation team are very picky on every changes as the change of screens affects all rooms.
Approach
We started this project by analysing the existing visual language and layout across all devices to make sure me and the UI designer understand how the icon, template, function, layout, visual are shared across different devices.
After we had a basic understanding, we started visiting the demonstration room to understand how users are navigating the screens in the actual environment and mapping out all the locations where the screen sits. By doing so, we had a further understanding of the context and ambient of the room of how those screens work from the user perspective.
The next thing was to conduct the gap analysis between new and old screens size to work on the information architecture of each of the screens. After all these, we then started to the production of the new screens.
